Carers Conversations

I think the best way to raise awareness for rare dementia and find community is to talk about it. Carers Conversations is a series that gives carers a platform to share their experience.

Take a look at our previous episode

We spoke to Bettie Devos who is a young dementia carer for her Mum, Sarah. Sarah is living with young-onset Primary Progressive Aphasia, a rare form of dementia.

Across two episodes, Bettie and I discuss the idea that you might not think of yourself as a carer once your loved one has moved into a care facility or home but emotional caring is still caring. Bettie shares very openly about why she calls her Mum Sarah, and not Mum, and why she is trying to slowly bring ‘Mum’ back into her vocabulary. It is a beautiful conversation and it was a real joy to be able to speak to Bettie.

I understand that as carers, we have very little time to spare, but if you would like to use some of your time sharing your story and experiences as a dementia carer, then it would be a pleasure to hear from you.

Go to the contact form in the top right corner, or send me an email with the subject ‘Carers Conversations’.

I know I find comfort in shared experiences, and I hope this series brings the same comfort to others in similar situations.
